Before racing at
Borger's Speedway, Kim and her family spent every
Saturday night camping at a Flying Dutchman in Pine Grove, PA where
they raced Quads
on Sundays. Kim won a couple track championships and District 6
championships in the Woman's class. She then moved to racing with
the guys
in 4stroke C, finishing 5th overall. The following year, she moved
up to 4stroke B, finishing 3rd in points! Then, Kim got the
opporunity to drive long time friend, Jay Hartman's
slingshot at Borger's Speedway approx. 5 years ago. A week later,
her
parents came home with a Yellow slingshot for her. Over a 2 1/2 year
period
racing a slingshot she had 6 wins and many heat race wins. She
finished
10th her first year in points (only raced 1/2 a year), 4th her 2nd
year,
and 2nd place her last year in slingshots. She then got the
opportunity to
try her uncle, Paul Richards, 270cc micro sprint. There were some
mechanical problems that night but she at least was able to get the
feel of a micro. The following week, Jesse Hartman gave her the
chance to drive his Warren Mading #4s micro at Borger's. 2nd
time in a micro....and she WON the rookie heat race AND feature. She
was then offered a full ride by car owner Chuck Clark driving his RTS
#4t4 car. She raced 1 year in the rookie class finishing 5th in
points. The following year, Kim moved up to the Regular division
racing with the "big boys." She earned herself a feature win and
many heat race wins, finishing 4th overall (right behind her
husband).
This year Kim hopes to obtain another top 5 finish in points!
Not many woman get
the opportunity to drive a racecar with their
husband and brother (and sometimes Uncle) so Kim and her family
really enjoy
loading up the trailer and heading to the races every Saturday
night!
For all of you that wonder about the husband-wife situation on the
track...when we are out there, we treat each other like anyone else.
And if he passes me: No, he doesn't have to sleep on the couch!
Goal: To get the opportunity to try a Modified one day.
I want to thank my Aunt Carol for her dedication to us every single
week at the track. Since I started racing, she has pretty much been
there every
single week helping. Recently, she has been sick and has not been
able to
make it to the races. She still demands a Text Message after every
race to
see how we finished. But if it wasn't for her and her support, help
and
encouragment, we wouldn't be where we are today. I miss her every
weekend
at the track, but I know she is thinking about us! Pretty soon, she
will be
back!
